Arunachal Pradesh to Launch Film Policy Aiming to Boost Regional Cinema

In a significant step to boost the film industry in Arunachal Pradesh, the state government is preparing to unveil a new film policy. Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Nyato Dukam announced this initiative during the assembly session on Wednesday, following concerns raised by BJP MLA Tai Nikio about the challenges faced by local filmmakers.

Minister Dukam revealed that the state cabinet has approved the formation of an interim committee tasked with drafting a comprehensive film policy. This committee, comprising the IPR secretary, director, deputy director (film), and two prominent filmmakers, is actively working to finalize the policy within the next financial year. The drafting process involves consultations with key stakeholders, including the Film and Television Institute in Rakap, to ensure a well-rounded approach to developing the state’s film sector.

MLA Nikio highlighted the lack of a structured policy as a major obstacle to the growth of Arunachal Pradesh’s film industry. He proposed the establishment of a State Film Production Board or corporation to provide essential support to local producers and encourage revenue-generating productions.

The government’s initiative aims to address these concerns by fostering a supportive environment for filmmakers, promoting regional cinema, and driving economic growth through the creative industry.
