At Kigwema, NSCPCR hosted a one-day child rights awareness event

The Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) held a one-day child rights awareness event in the Multi-Purpose Hall in Kigwema, which is part of Kohima’s Jakhama Sub-division. To increase awareness and bolster initiatives for the defense and advancement of children’s rights, the event brought together a number of stakeholders. NSCPCR secretary Yongchingkumla highlighted the Commission’s dedication to protecting the rights and welfare of all children in her welcome speech.

In his keynote speech, NSCPCR chairman Alun Hangsing emphasized the fundamental rights of children, such as the right to life, the right to be free from discrimination, the right to be protected from harm, and the right to dignity. In order to provide children with a secure and caring environment, he emphasized the significance of a team effort. Nockpai Konyak, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, emphasized the pressing necessity to address the growing number of child abuse and exploitation cases in contemporary society. He urged the attendees to aggressively raise awareness and seek to provide a setting that is safe for kids.

NSCPCR Member Akumla Longchari discussed the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, highlighting its importance as a safeguard against sexual abuse. She also highlighted the Right to Education Act, 2009, which provides free and compulsory elementary education to children aged 6-14 years, prohibiting discrimination based on caste, religion, or gender. Legal Consultant Lichani Murry discussed the Juvenile Justice Act, emphasizing the importance of multi-sectoral measures for child protection. The event included a presentation on child issues in Kohima District.
