Centre Allocates ₹1,280 Crore to Bihar, Himachal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry for Disaster Relief

The Central Government of India has approved ₹1,280.35 crore in additional disaster assistance for Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, addressing the impact of natural calamities such as floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, and cyclonic storms that occurred in 2024.

This decision was made by a high-level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The allocation includes ₹588.73 crore for Bihar, ₹136.22 crore for Himachal Pradesh, ₹522.34 crore for Tamil Nadu, and ₹33.06 crore for Puducherry. The funds are provided through the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and are supplementary to the amounts already released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Union Territorial Disaster Response Fund (UTDRF).

The government has also released significant funds during the financial year 2024-25, including ₹20,264.40 crore to 28 states under SDRF and ₹5,160.76 crore under NDRF to 19 states. Additional allocations include ₹4,984.25 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 19 states and ₹719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states.

To ensure timely assistance, the government deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to the affected regions immediately after the disasters, even before receiving formal memorandums. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to supporting states and union territories in disaster recovery and mitigation efforts.
