Imphal East and West’s curfew was loosened on Saturday from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m

The district magistrates of Imphal East and Imphal West have announced a relaxation of curfew restrictions on Saturday, from 5 am to 4 pm, to allow residents to purchase essential items such as food, medicines, and other necessities. Commencing on September 1, the curfew was enforced in accordance with Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Separate regulations stated that big gatherings, demonstrations, protests, and illegal acts will not be allowed during this time and that the relaxation is tightly limited to necessary activity.

The directive further said that people traveling to and from the airport will not be impacted by the limitations. A curfew was previously implemented in Manipur’s Imphal East and Imphal West districts because of the current state of law and order. The Bharatiya Ngarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023’s Section 163 prohibitory orders limit people’s ability to leave their homes starting on September 1, 2024, and they last until further notice. Curfews do not apply to anyone who works in the press, electronic media, courts, health, electricity, or PHED sectors. In addition, despite the limitations, moving is permitted for media persons, airplane passengers, municipal officials, power staff, and gas station employees.
