Japanese House of Representatives meets Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

A Japanese delegation led by Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives (Upper House), Nukaga Fukushiro, paid Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha a visit in Parliament on Friday. In addition to firmly denouncing the Pahalgam terrorist incident, Fukushiro reaffirmed Japan’s support for India in the war against terrorism. Birla wrote in a post on X that she had a pleasant and fruitful conversation with the Japanese Parliamentary Delegation today at the Parliament House complex, which was chaired by H.E. Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro, the Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives. In addition to expressing solidarity and reaffirming Japan’s support for India’s battle against terrorism, H. E. Fukushiro strongly condemned the terrorist incident in Pahalgam. highlighted how crucial friendship between Japan and India is to world peace, prosperity, and stability in the current global environment.

In August of last year, Birla and the Japanese delegation also met at the Indian Parliament’s Monsoon Session. The two nations share a bicameral legislative system. Both nations have made advancing democracy, the rule of law, and pluralism a top priority. The Pahalgam terror assault on April 22 has been denounced by Japan. Earlier on April 30, members of the Indian community and the Indian Embassy in Tokyo paid tribute to the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. India’s Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, also paid respect to the victims, saying that they have come together to honour those who died in the tragedy.
