Delhi-born actor Raashii Khanna has a unique bond with the Lohri festival. She remembers the celebration from her early years as she commemorates the momentous occasion with HTCity. “Growing up in Delhi, you get a close-up look at Punjabi culture, and even outside of families, Lohri becomes a community event, which is why it has always felt so meaningful to me. The 35-year-old actor recalls, “My favorite childhood memories are of large families like mine spending time together, traveling and gathering in Delhi, lighting the bonfire in the building courtyard, offering peanuts, jaggery, popcorn, and singing Lohri songs together. Now I realize it was really about togetherness.”
“For me, Lohri is a symbol of coziness, thankfulness, and people together after the winter. It’s deeply ingrained and reassuring,” she says. “Even if I’m currently away, I make an effort to recreate that experience in some way, whether it’s by video calling my family from wherever they are or celebrating with my colleagues on set. What really makes Lohri unique is that warmth,” she continues.
Actor Raashii shares her love for Lohri, especially its traditional foods like til, gud, rewri, and popcorn, which evoke childhood memories of winter celebrations in Delhi. She finds the flavours comforting, nostalgic, and deeply rooted in tradition. Raashii also enjoys dressing up in traditional Punjabi attire, saying it adds joy and cultural connection to the festival. Viewing Lohri as the first meaningful festival of the year, she considers it a quiet yet powerful reset, focusing on emotional balance, grounding, and making conscious professional choices while staying connected to her roots and loved ones.
