A combined force of central and state troops picked up six suspected activists affiliated with three insurgent groups in the state during the last 24 hours. The operations also resulted in the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and incriminating papers from different hideouts.
Two members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were apprehended by security personnel in a single operation close to Border Pillar No. 76 on the Indian side in Tengnoupal district.
Three light machine guns and a good quantity of ammunition were seized from the duo by the authorities. Their presence at the border increased the suspicion of cross-border insurgent activities, and security was tightened in the area. During a different raid, an active member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) was detained from the Bishnupur locality falling under the Kumbi police station. Security officials confiscated a few incriminating documents from his possession, which are being analyzed for more information on the group’s activities.
In the meantime, police detained one member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) and two fresh young recruits who recently joined the group of insurgents. The detentions were carried out in the Bishnupur district, during which the officials seized a loaded pistol with live ammunition, a wireless communication set, and a charger.
The detentions of the new recruits reflect continuing attempts by insurgent groups to increase their members, and such activities raise concern about their networks of recruitment. Security forces have mounted operations against the insurgent groups, targeting their bases and cracking down on their activities. Officials have promised further investigations to arrest more members and destroy their networks.
