Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the ‘She-Rise’ production unit on Monday, marking a significant step in menstrual hygiene and sustainability under the Green Meghalaya Initiative. The project, spearheaded by the Shubham Charitable Association, is the first of its kind in the Northeast dedicated to manufacturing reusable sanitary pads.
The unit, established with a ₹5 lakh grant from the Chief Minister’s Special Grant, aims to promote eco-friendly menstrual practices while empowering local women. Equipped with essential machinery, the facility has already created employment for over 25 women from the surrounding community.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, CM Sangma urged citizens to support the mission, which aligns with broader goals of environmental responsibility and women’s health. The She-Rise unit is expected to serve as a model for similar projects across the region.
