At the 38th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Kohima, Nagaland’s Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, emphasized the importance of lifelong learning. He stressed that obtaining a certificate or degree is just the beginning of a continuous learning journey, rather than its conclusion.
During his speech, Along highlighted that Nagaland boasts one of the highest literacy rates in India, but there is a more pressing issue to address—the mindset towards continuous learning. He encouraged graduates to view education as a lifelong endeavor and to apply their knowledge while continuously expanding their skills. Along expressed concern over the growing trend of educated individuals avoiding hard work and failing to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities. He emphasized that success requires effort and that actions must have purpose and aim for the greater good.
The minister also highlighted the importance of unity and collective progress, urging graduates to contribute to the state’s development through excellence in entrepreneurship and other fields that benefit the community
