After receiving suggestion from across the country with regard to women, the Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (NPMCC) has listed out several demands in the form of “Nari Nyay”- Justice for Women. The demands included- economic, social and political empowerment for women.
Claiming that life has become difficult for women to run their homes due to consistence price rise and the failure of the government to regulate prices of essential commodities, NPMCC president, Akumla Pongen demanded regulation of price by providing substantial subsidies.
The mahila demanded equal pay for equal work and regulation to ensure the gender-gap parity at the earliest.
Under social empowerment, the demand included, healthcare / primary delivery centers and a comprehensive health package along with ensuring basic health infrastructure across India, especially in rural areas.
The demand of NPMCC was that education sector should be given top priority by ensuring safety to protect young girls from violence – physical, mental and cyber. The mahila demanded free public toilets for women be set up across cities and villages, at a distance of every 5 kms.
NPMCC also demanded immediate implementation of Women Representation Act and ensure its effective implementation in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. It further demanded that the BJP leaders including women leaders to take a strong stand against continuous injustice taking place against women. Meanwhile, NMPCC said that All India Mahila Congress were committed to the constitutional values of the country and to fight for the rights of women.
