Nayang Kejong Chang, a former minister and six-time MLA died at age 101

Nayang Kejong Chang, a former minister and six-time MLA, died at the age of 101. His wife, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren survive him. Kejong Chang was born in Hakchang village, Tuensang district, on May 7, 1923. He had a lengthy and illustrious career in public service. On June 6, 1949, he started working for the Tuensang Frontier Agency, which was a division of the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), as an interpreter (Dobashi). Later, in 1957, he was appointed honorary captain of the newly established Village Guards Organization.

Before retiring in June 1991, he served in the government for 42 years, holding a number of important posts, including head interpreter and second-class Political Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner. Kejong Chang, a devoted Congress worker, was a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and head of the Tuensang District Congress Committee (I) from June 18, 1993, until March 2004. On a Congress (I) ticket, Kejong was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1998 from the 54 Tuensang Sadar II Assembly Constituency.

He was appointed as an advisor for Village Guards (VG), Dobashi (DB), and Gaon Burah (GB) Affairs after winning the April 16, 2009, by-election on an NPF platform. He held the positions of parliamentary secretary for Jail, Home Guard, VG, DB, and GB before being re-elected in the 2013 general election. He held the positions of parliamentary secretary for Horticulture, DB, and GB from 2014 to 2017. From July 2017 to 2018, he was appointed a cabinet minister. On an NPF platform, Kejong Chang won the 2018 general elections once more.
