On the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the Iron Man of India, recalling his monumental contribution in integrating over 500 princely states into the Indian Union after independence. The tribute was delivered during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations held at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on October 31, 2025.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi emphasized that Patel’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” continues to guide the nation’s unity and development. “We are witnessing a historic moment and feeling the power of determination of a ‘Naye Bharat’ (New India),” he said, highlighting the enduring relevance of Patel’s leadership in shaping a cohesive and sovereign India.
To mark the occasion, the Prime Minister unveiled a special commemorative coin and postage stamp in honor of Sardar Patel. The event featured cultural performances and a grand parade that reflected India’s diverse heritage and patriotic spirit. Modi also participated in the nationwide ‘Run for Unity’, a symbolic gesture reinforcing the message of national integration.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also present at the celebrations, remarked that PM Modi fulfilled Patel’s dream of a truly unified India by abrogating Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Shah noted that Patel’s efforts in merging 562 princely states were once considered impossible, but his diplomatic acumen and firm resolve made it a reality.
The day was observed across the country with various programs in schools, government offices, and public spaces, reaffirming the values of unity, integrity, and patriotism that Sardar Patel stood for.
