police assault on student that the Organizations censure

ANCSU: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the police assault on Moalong Jamir, resulting in multiple injuries, including suffering left ear drum damage, fractured spinal cord and swollen kidney.
Noting that the incident had gained significant attention in the media, union’s president Tenyesinlo Bukh and general secretary Arhonthung M Lotha in a press release said it had shocked and appalled not only the family members but also the entire student community.

Acknowledging that law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in safety, they said it was however disheartening to witness such a blatant abuse of power and a violation of the trust bestowed upon the police force by the public. They stated that the incident not only undermined the principles of justice and fairness, but also eroded the faith of the community in law enforcement.

Admitting that the actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of the entire police personnel, they however stressed that it was equally important to hold those responsible accountable for their actions and ensure that such incidents were not repeated. They asserted that the use of excessive force, especially against an unarmed individual, was a clear violation of human rights and a direct contradiction to the principles of a just and democratic society.

They appealed to all right-thinking citizens and organisations to strongly condemn the incident so as to help deliver justice to the innocent victim and prevent such incidents from recurring again. They further appealed to the department concerned to carry out an immediate investigation and take appropriate action against the unjust police personnel. “Let us work together to restore faith in our law enforcement agencies and ensure a safer and more just society for all. We demand Justice.,”ANCSU stated.

AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba in a press release stated that such wicked disregard for the well-being and dignity of individuals was not only reprehensible but also a betrayal of the trust bestowed upon law enforcement agencies by the public. AKM pointed out that the excessive use of force against an unarmed student not only undermined the fabric of justice and fairness but also instilled fear and insecurity within the communities.

Expressing solidarity with Jamir and his family during this trying time, they demanded prompt and decisive action from the authorities to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act were immediately suspended, pending a thorough and impartial investigation.
They emphasised that justice must prevail, and accountability upheld to restore faith in the integrity of the law enforcement institutions.

“Let us unite in our seeking of justice and ensure that such act of brutality never find harbour in our society again,” they exhorted the public. Urging the authorities to act immediately, transparently, and justifiably in delivering accountability and recompense for the grievous harm inflicted upon Jamir, the duo declared they would continue to monitor the situation closely and remain committed in tracking justice for the victim and his family.

DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) said it was utterly dismayed by the recent incident in which Moalong Jamir was assaulted by AVTS while on duty. DNSU president Moayanger Jamir and general secretary Sedelo D Vadeo in a statement said such a misconduct by the police on duty and unjustly charging at the innocent student before proper interrogation without following legal procedure was highly amateurish on the part of the officers on duty.

Reiterating that the union reprimanded such acts of cowardice, they demanded immediate intervention of the higher authority of the bureau concerned to take lawful measures against the personnel of the AVTS so as to avoid further distrust and unbelief on the law agencies by the general populace. They also extended support and prayers for the student and wished him a very speedy recovery as well as justice.

ASUD: Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) said it was deeply disturbed by what had unfolded at New Showba village one of its bona fide member and Tetso College student by an AVTS team of Nagaland Police.

They mentioned that it was very unbecoming of the well-trained AVTS to have handled the situation in such an unprofessional and irresponsible manner.
Deploring the atrocities committed on the 19-year-old innocent student, they requested the higher authorities to look into the matter seriously and take appropriate actions against the erring personnel of the AVTS team and deliver justice to the victim.

They also demanded that the higher authorities of Nagaland Police should ensure that such untoward incidents causing serious physical harm and mental trauma to innocent citizens did not happen again in the near future.

Stating that they were disturbed by the incident, they felt that such an act of aggression and abuse of power was inexcusable and contradicted all that law enforcement stood for – to protect and serve the people.

They declared that the AVTS’ actions were not only illegal, but also a clear violation of the student’s rights and safety.
They stated, “It is profoundly unsettling that individuals who are expected to uphold the law and safeguard citizens have instead opted to use their authority to commit such a horrible crime.”

Strongly condemning the assault, the SST leaders demanded that the officers involved be held accountable for their conduct. They reckoned that this type of attitude could not be condoned in any society, let alone by those responsible for enforcing the law.
They said they stood in solidarity with “our brother” who had been a victim of the heinous act of violence and demanded a full investigation into the incident.

Insisting that justice be served and those responsible be brought to justice, they urged the authorities to take immediate and measures to ensure that such incidents did not occur again.
