President Murmu experiences underwater sortie on indigenous navy submarine

At the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka, President Droupadi Murmu boarded the Indian Navy’s native Kalvari-class submarine INS Vaghsheer and conducted a submerged sortie, according to an official. On the Western Seaboard, the President is on a sortie. The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces is being accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, a President’s Secretariat official stated in a post on X. President Droupadi Murmu’s first voyage aboard a Kalvari-class submarine is just the second such experience by an Indian president, after previous President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the official added, calling it a historic moment.

The President conducted a diving sortie on the Western Seaboard aboard INS Vaghsheer during the engagement. According to a statement from the official, “The President was briefed during the sortie on the role of the submarine arm in India’s maritime strategy, as well as its operational capabilities and contribution in safeguarding national maritime interests.” She also spoke with the INS Vaghsheer crew, praising them for their commitment, professionalism, and selfless service ethic. According to the statement, the President stated that the homegrown submarine is a prime illustration of the Indian Navy’s combat readiness, professionalism, and steadfast dedication to national security.
