Starting May 1, 2025, Pungro will enforce a complete ban on specific single-use plastic (SUP) items as per the directive issued by ADC Pungro, James T Khulu Tikhir. The prohibition covers all single-use plastic carry bags, regardless of thickness, as well as plastic water and soft drink bottles with a capacity of less than one liter.
The ban applies to all individuals and organizations within the Pungro Town Council jurisdiction, including educational institutions, government and private offices, commercial establishments, and industrial units.
Strict penalties will be imposed on violators, with fines set at Rs. 10,000 for the first offence and Rs. 20,000 for the second offence. Repeat offenders may face permit cancellations, ensuring compliance with the new regulations.
This move aims to curb plastic pollution and promote sustainable environmental practices in the region.
