In a tragic incident, a 9-year-old girl was found dead inside the Lanva TD Block Relief Camp located in Manipur’s Churachandpur in the early hours of Friday. Reports claim that the victim had been missing from the camp on Thursday evening, following which her family started searching for her.
According to reports, her family and camp residents launched a search operation after she failed to return. Hours later, at around midnight, they discovered her lifeless body within the premises of the relief camp.
Reports indicate that her throat had been tied with a rope, and visible injury marks were found on her body. Additionally, there were bloodstains on her body, especially on her buttocks, raising suspicions of sexual assault. Authorities have launched an investigation, suspecting her of being a rape victim.
The girl’s body has been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and whether she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at a relief camp in Imphal West district, Manipur, earlier in January, according to police reports. The incident occurred at the Mekola Higher Secondary School relief camp in the afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Sukham Ongbi Chanu, was discovered hanging from the ceiling by another camp inmate, who attempted but failed to save her.
