Sharingain Longkumer Attends Onam Cultural Evening in Dimapur, Celebrates Unity in Diversity

Dimapur, Nagaland, September 22, 2025 — Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, graced the Onam cultural evening held in Dimapur on Sunday, joining hundreds of Malayali residents and guests in celebrating the harvest festival with vibrant performances, traditional cuisine, and messages of communal harmony.

Organized by the Malayali Samajam Dimapur, the event showcased Kerala’s rich cultural heritage through classical dance forms like Mohiniyattam and Kathakali, musical renditions, and the iconic floral carpet (Pookalam). The evening also featured a traditional Sadhya feast served on banana leaves, drawing enthusiastic participation from diverse communities across Dimapur.

In his address, Longkumer praised the Malayali community for preserving their cultural identity while contributing meaningfully to Nagaland’s social and economic fabric. “Onam is a celebration of prosperity, unity, and gratitude. It reminds us that diversity is our strength, and festivals like these bring people together beyond boundaries,” he said.

The event also included felicitation of senior community members and students who excelled in academics and public service. Local leaders, civil society representatives, and cultural enthusiasts attended the programme, underscoring Dimapur’s growing reputation as a hub of multicultural engagement.

Organizers expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s presence, noting that his participation added significance to the occasion and reflected the inclusive spirit of Nagaland. The Onam celebration concluded with a group Thiruvathira dance and a vote of thanks from the Samajam president.
