Agartala, July 29, 2025 — A disturbing incident of sexual assault has emerged from Tripura’s Khowai district, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men while she was on her way to a grocery shop on Monday night.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the Tuikarma area near Paschim Muslim Para. The victim was abducted by two individuals who forcibly took her to a secluded location and committed the assault. Jayanta Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station, confirmed that the girl’s cries for help alerted nearby residents, but the accused fled before they could be apprehended.
One of the suspects, identified as Antar Miah, has been arrested. The second accused, Hiran Miah, remains at large, and a search operation is underway to locate him. An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident comes amid recent claims by Tripura’s law enforcement and government officials that the state’s crime rate has declined. Earlier this month, Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar stated that crime had dropped by 8–10% compared to the previous year, while Chief Minister Manik Saha cited a 19.4% reduction in overall crime due to improved governance.
The case has sparked renewed concerns over women’s safety in the region. Authorities have assured swift action and reiterated their commitment to justice.
