The Nagaland cabinet has approved Meluri as the 17th district

According to a minister, the Nagaland government approved the split of Phek district into Meluri subdivision as a new district. The government spokeswoman, Forest Minister CL John, told PTI that the decision was made during a cabinet meeting that was presided over by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. When the ruling is put into effect, the Pochury Naga tribe’s home neighborhood, Meluri subdivision, will become the state’s seventeenth district. In the past three years, this is the fifth district to be established.

The Rio government divided Dimapur into the districts of Tseminyu, Chumoukedima, and Niuland in December 2021, and split Tuensang district in January 2022 to establish Shamator. In an interview with PTI, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority and New & Renewable Energy advisor and Meluri’s MLA, praised the move and thanked CM Rio. Additionally, he praised the Chakhesang community, who are the main dominant group in the Phek district, for totally supporting the Pochury tribe’s demand.

The 1,011 square kilometer Meluri subdivision contains four administrative heads and 31 recognized communities. Here are the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Avangkhu on the Myanmar border and the industrial town of Wazeho, he said. The tribe’s highest authority, Pochury Hoho, referred to it as the “red letter day” for the neighborhood. It expressed gratitude to the local MLA, CM Rio, and his cabinet colleagues.
