Three Women Killed by Train While Crossing Tracks in Assam’s Kamrup District

Kamrup, August 18 — In a tragic incident early Monday morning, three women lost their lives after being hit by a train near Bamunigaon railway station in Assam’s Kamrup district. The victims—Rumi Das (55), Korbi Malu (60), and Uttara Das (60)—were residents of Boko village and were out for their routine morning walk when the accident occurred around 5:25 AM.

According to eyewitnesses, the women were crossing the tracks when they heard the horn of an approaching freight train (NMG) and stepped aside to another track. Unfortunately, they failed to notice the Puri Express coming from the opposite direction and were struck fatally.

Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, Kopinjol Kishore Sharma, confirmed that the incident took place between Bamunigaon and Boko stations on the Kamakhya–Goalpara route. He urged the public to avoid crossing railway tracks at unauthorized locations.

Police from Boko station arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation. Locals expressed concern over recurring accidents on this route, claiming that at least 20 people have died in similar incidents over the past two decades. They are demanding immediate safety measures from railway authorities and the government.

This heartbreaking event has once again highlighted the urgent need for public awareness and improved safety infrastructure around railway tracks.
